
Cédric Haverkamp

With more than 12 years of experience in conservation and ecosystem restoration, Cédric Haverkamp is Technical Director for Conservation International in New Caledonia. He specializes in watershed management, nature-based solutions, biodiversity conservation, and participatory environmental management, with a particular focus on integrating Indigenous knowledge and community leadership into conservation action.
Since joining Conservation International in 2016, Cédric has led terrestrial and marine conservation programs across New Caledonia. His work has included biodiversity monitoring, climate adaptation, invasive species control, ecosystem restoration, and the development of innovative conservation tools. He is best known for pioneering green firebreaks for wildfire risk reduction and for leading the Pacific region's first sediment trap initiative to reduce sedimentation impacts on coral reef ecosystems and coastal habitats.
Passionate about protecting nature for people, Cédric works to strengthen livelihoods, water security, food security, and local stewardship of natural resources. He believes that effective conservation is built on strong partnerships, respect for traditional knowledge, and practical solutions that bring communities together to address environmental challenges.
Originally from France, Cédric has lived in New Caledonia for 15 years, where he continues to learn from Kanak culture and its deep connection to the environment. He enjoys bushwalking, snorkeling, mountain biking, gardening, and spending time in nature with his family.
