
Thomas Auger

With 17 years in marine conservation and sustainable fisheries management across the Pacific, Indian Ocean, Mediterranean, and Southern Oceans, Thomas Auger leads Conservation International's global Sustainable Tuna Program, that strengthen fisheries governance, promote sustainable tuna production, and drive innovation within the blue economy through partnerships with governments, communities, industry, and donors.
Throughout his career, Thomas has worked at the intersection of marine science, fisheries management, and conservation. Since joining Conservation International in 2018, he has led marine conservation programs in New Caledonia and Wallis & Futuna, supporting large-scale marine protected areas, community-based resource management, fisheries improvement projects, and ecosystem restoration initiatives.
Thomas is passionate about creating practical solutions that align ocean conservation with economic opportunity and community well-being. He brings a collaborative approach to his work, combining scientific expertise, stakeholder engagement, capacity building, and sustainable finance to help ensure healthy marine ecosystems and resilient coastal livelihoods for future generations.
Based in New Caledonia, Thomas has lived and worked close to local communities across Asia, Europe, the Indian Ocean, and the Pacific, experiences that continue to shape his global perspective on ocean conservation and sustainable development.
